DRAMA & CREATIVE ARTS PROGRAM
After-school drama program for children 6+
This hands-on program offers instructor-led drama classes where children explore acting, storytelling, and performance. Sessions include movement and voice work, improvisation, character-building, and collaborative scene creation, alongside creative projects that complement the dramatic work.
Students might build simple props, craft costume pieces, make stick puppets, or design characters with interesting backstories. They are encouraged to experiment, take creative risks, and share original ideas. Expect the occasional forest troll, misunderstood villain, or talking animal to appear.
These creations become part of performances, using handmade props, performing as a puppet they designed, or acting as a character they developed. It’s a hands-on way for children to put their ideas into action on stage.
Students also work on longer themed projects that introduce the basics of theatre production, including shaping scenes. Depending on the age and experience of the group, children may also contribute to simple script writing, experiment with basic stage lighting, and explore more advanced puppetry styles, including hand and rod puppets or performances that combine puppetry with live acting.
